If you only do one sunset in Kapalua, do it from the Point at Merriman's. The restaurant sits out on a grassy bluff above Kapalua Bay, and the oceanfront Point bar is fully open air with big views all around. No reservations are required for the Point bar (the restaurant does require reservations).
They serve their signature mai tai with lilikoi foam on top. Yum! Pair it with a few appetizers, listen to the live music, and watch the sunset over the water. During whale season, you’ll often see whales jumping just off the point too. It is easily one of our favorite places on the island.
The dining room itself is wonderful also, farm-to-table and beautifully done, but we save that one for anniversaries and big celebrations.
Insider tip: Go to the Point for drinks and appetizers just before sunset, then head somewhere else for dinner. The Point opens daily at 4 p.m. and does not take reservations, so arrive early if you don’t want to wait.
