The beach gets its name from the old slaughterhouse that used to operate nearby (long since gone), and it's one of those spots that reminds you why we fell in love with Maui in the first place. Bring your snorkel gear, a picnic, and plan to spend the afternoon.
Slaughterhouse Beach is one of our absolute favorite snorkel spots. The sandy beach is tucked into a cove with calm, crystal-clear water. During summer, the snorkeling is phenomenal, with vibrant coral reefs and tons of tropical fish. One note - when it’s not calm, it’s a surf spot…so you might want to check the surf forecast in the area before venturing out.
Insider tip: Park early (before 10am), especially on weekends. And bring plenty of water; there are no facilities at the beach.
